Overview

This role is responsible for managing the Gentle Dental benefit programs. Responsible for managing the operations, day-to day employee assistance, assist with open enrollment, manage ancillary benefit programs, worker’s compensation, leaves of absence and retirement programs. This role serves as the subject matter expert and manager of all mobility concerns including relocation locally and immigration issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation and administration of the company’s benefit programs, and any required fillings (5500)
  • Responsible for ensuring the benefits are compliant with federal, state and local requirements/laws (ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Partner with the Vice President, Human Resources to evaluate, measure and benchmark plans using key benefit metrics to ensure competitive, cost effective programs
  • Partner with the Vice President, Human Resources to set the Benefits Strategy in line with the overall Total Rewards Strategy and EVP
  • Assist with the development of benefit communication materials, including open enrollment, new hire guides (Benefits Handbook) and summary plan descriptions
  • Responsible for Leave Management ensuring all leaves are compliant and employees are provided all leave requirements
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of workers’ compensation, acting as the liaison between the employee, WC provider and the business
  • Responsible for Benefits HRIS to ensure eligibility files are sent timely and accurately to Payroll and vendors  
  • Work with brokers and third-party solution providers, providing reports, analysis, etc., as requested
  • Responsible for managing the ancillary benefit programs (Life, STD, LTD, etc.)
  • Manage and administer the 401k plan. This includes: eligibility, participant education, employee and employer contributions, employee loans and required government filing (5500).
  • Manage the PTO process, feeds to Payroll and competitiveness of benefit
  • Partner in the development and implementation of new health and wellness initiatives in partnership with the business to build a culture of wellness, enforcing healthy behaviors and optimizing healthcare costs
  • Partner with HR and business to address any ADA requests
  • Support the employee onboarding process, including all communication and education around Benefits and enrollment process
  • Manage mobility programs for employees relocating locally, including any immigration matters

 

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Demonstrates sound working knowledge of applicable benefit regulations and human resource practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal formats in one-on-one, small, and large group situations, at all levels of the organization
  • Has a proven track record of working independently and using sound judgement on HR and business issues, especially those involving complexity and ambiguity. Ability to facilitate team meetings
  • Strong computer and HR systems skills (including email, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software programs) combined with business acumen to conduct in-depth research, analyze data, and prepare recommendations based on the results
  • Ability to differentiate the symptom from the cause – helps others do the same; recognizes and confronts issues early on
  • Ability to negotiate and influence with vendors and all levels of employees
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and act with minimal supervision
  • Strong project management skills

 

Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years of experience working in HR within the Benefits team
  • Experience negotiating with vendors
  • Experience managing projects
  • Experience analyzing data and making informed recommendations
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Experience ensuring legal compliance
